Our Principles
for Honest and Ethical Conduct
Southland is one of the largest privately held companies in the United States. But we did not start that way. The company’s growth was built by the determination, drive, and grit of seven decades of earlier generations. Today, as an employee-owned company, we believe it is our mission to protect that legacy.
At Southland, we are more than just employees. We are stewards of the company with an unwavering commitment to preserve Southland for future generations. That is why it is the duty of each and every employee to ensure our decisions are made with Southland’s best interests at the forefront. The following are general principles we embrace daily:
- We act ethically and with integrity in all business dealings.
- We make sure the records we create are true and correct.
- Our actions are guided by honesty and avoid even the appearance of impropriety, bias, or fraud.
- We safeguard Southland’s and customers’ property, including data and confidential information.
- We fulfill our obligations to Southland and customers in a timely manner.
- We honestly use Southland’s funds, time, property, materials, and equipment.
- We are polite and respectful in our speech and written communications.
- We are transparent with our bidding practices and processes.
- We are judicious in our decision-making with company assets and seek to protect and safeguard the company’s physical equipment and materials.
- We make choices that do not leave employees questioning the propriety or legality of the situation.
As conscientious stewards of our company, in our duty to promote a culture of ethics, and in each and every instance where we have the ability to do the right thing, employees should consider the following before acting:
- Am I leading by example?
- Is my proposed course of action consistent with Southland’s core values?
- Could my action(s) harm Southland’s reputation or compromise the company, my colleagues, or myself in any way?
- Would I be comfortable if my actions were widely known?
- Is this decision the kind that Southland would want to highlight to its clients?
- Is there any chance my conduct could be illegal?
